What safety rules should be followed on the slopes?

To ensure everyone’s safety on the ski slopes, the International Ski Federation (FIS) has defined 10 essential rules of conduct that must be followed:

Respect for others

Skiers must behave in a way that does not endanger others, either through their actions or their equipment.

Control of speed and behavior

Adapt your speed to your skill level, the snow conditions, the weather, and the slope traffic.

Priority to the skier below

The skier downhill always has the right of way. Skiers uphill must choose a safe trajectory.

Overtaking

Overtaking may be done on the right or left, but always with enough space to avoid collisions.

Crossings and slope entry

Before entering a slope, check that the path is clear by looking uphill and downhill.

Stopping

Do not stop in narrow areas or where visibility is limited. In case of a fall, move off the slope quickly.

Walking uphill or downhill

Always use the edge of the slope to avoid obstructing other skiers.

Respect for signage

Follow all signs, markers, and instructions from the pisteurs. Never enter a closed slope.

Assistance in case of an accident

Help anyone who is injured and alert the ski patrol.

Identification

If you witness or are involved in an accident, you must identify yourself to the pisteurs.

These rules apply to all snow sports participants (skiing, snowboarding, etc.) and help everyone enjoy the slopes safely.

Should I take out insurance?

Carré Neige insurance provides full protection for skiers in case of accidents or unforeseen events during their stay at the resort.

It covers:

  • Rescue and evacuation costs on the slopes (pisteurs, ambulance, helicopter)

  • Medical and hospitalization expenses, in addition to Social Security and private insurance

  • Reimbursement of unused ski passes and lessons (for passes of 3 days or more)

  • Repatriation costs to your home or a medical facility

Options such as Carré Neige Intégral also include pre-trip cancellation coverage. The insurance is valid for the duration of the ski pass and does not cover unguided off-piste skiing.
